前回のインタビュー⑦は、「人脈は、生まれる」について——恩師・菅和義氏との出会いと、函館での初対面という、縁の奇跡を語った回だった。

今回⑧は、その言葉の核心に飯田さんがさらに踏み込んでくださった回だった。「人脈が『生まれる』という言葉には、どのような気持ちや実感が込められているのか」——この問いに、私は自分自身の歩みの地層を、改めて言葉にすることになった。

前回のインタビューでは、光希さんの恩師である菅（Suga）和義氏との関係性について伺いました。

人脈は「作るもの」ではなく、「生まれる」と表現されています。

さっそくですが、「子どものような問い」として、お聞きします。
この「生まれる」という言葉には、どのような気持ちや、実感が込められているのでしょうか。

「人脈は作るものではなく、生まれる」
――この言葉に込めた実感を、正直にお話しします。

なぜ「作る」ではなく「生まれる」なのか。

人脈とは、名刺交換のように意図的に作り上げるものではないと、私は思っています。目の前のことに、ただ真摯に向き合う過程で、自然と「生まれる」――結果として、そこにできているものなのです。

人脈が「生まれる」理由は、三つあると思っています。

一つは、信頼の副産物であるということ。仕事や活動に一生懸命取り組み、相手に価値や満足を提供した結果として、信頼関係は自然に築かれていきます。

二つは、価値観の共鳴です。自分が好きなことに没頭し、自己研鑽を積み続けることで、同じような熱量を持つ人が、自然と引き寄せられてきます。

三つは、自然な縁であるということ。打算的な出会いよりも、利害関係のない場所で生まれたフラットなつながりこそが、長い目で見た時に、最も強固な人脈になります。

無理に多くの人とつながろうとするのではなく、目の前の人を大切にすること。それこそが、結果的に最良の縁を引き寄せる、最も確かな近道なのだと思います。

誠実さと積み重ねが、引き寄せるご縁

私は、人脈を求めて動いたことが、ほとんどありません。ただ、技法を完成させたいという一心で、来る日も来る日も試作を重ね、それを「徒然草」という文章で、毎日のように綴り続けていただけでした。

私は、自分の作品を「売り込むため」のポートフォリオを、ほとんど作ったことがありません。あくまで、自分の作品を「理解してもらうため」のポートフォリオを、徒然草という形で作り続けてきました。技法に込めた哲学、作品に込めた魂——これらを、一日また一日と言語化し続けることで、読んでくださった方には、「光希まさと」という芸術家の生きざまそのものが、自然と伝わっていったのだと思います。

地層

2年半以上、450投稿を超えるこの積み重ねは、今日もまた一つ、新しい地層を重ねています。これは、どれほど巧みに作り込まれたポートフォリオよりも、強固なものだと感じています。

この地層の上に、Aさん（✤）との出会い、菅さんとの出会い、FLATLABO社との出会いが、まるで天から降ってきたかのように、訪れました。打算や戦略やマネタイズでなく、ただ誠実に積み重ねた言葉と作品が、その縁を引き寄せたのだと思っています。

これらの奇跡的なご縁が生まれたのは、芸術家として私が歩んできた道が、「清く・正しく・美しい道」であったからだと思っています。

正直にお話しすると、私は、理解者が少ないことを、嘆いたことはありません。

むしろ、少人数だからこそ得られる喜びがあります。お一人お一人の顔が見える関係性。メッセージやコメントをいただいた時、一人一人に丁寧に、真摯にお応えできる喜びです。

YouTuberだった頃

YouTuberだった頃、私は毎日、何百件というコメントやメッセージに対応していました。中には、アンチコメントも少なくありませんでした。それに向き合うことの精神的な疲労は、決して小さなものではありませんでした。

登録者数やコメントの数があまりに多くなるにつれ、私は、自分自身の首を、自分の手で絞めているような違和感を覚えるようになっていきました。マネタイズを優先するなら、それは当たり前のことかもしれません。しかし、私には、一人一人に真面目に向き合いたいという気持ちがあり、その気持ちと、現実との間に、深い乖離がありました。

YouTubeチャンネルを手放した時、一時的に、孤独に近いものを感じなかったわけではありません。背負っていた余計なものを全て手放したことで、身体が本当に軽くなり、高く飛べるようになりました。

YouTubeチャンネルを捨てて変わったこと

そして今、YouTubeチャンネルというマネタイズを捨てて、貧しかったあの頃と、何が変わったのか。

正直に言えば、お金の面では、今も決して豊かではありません。しかし、何千枚もの試作を重ねたあの日々を、私は一度も「苦労」だと感じたことがありません。それはむしろ、世界一幸せな時間でした。

なぜなら、私の中には、「世界で一番美しい作品を作りたい」という、芸術家としての魂の叫びがあり、それが今、まさに現実になりつつあるからです。

自分自身で、「これこそが、世界で一番美しい」と思える作品が、実際に生まれる瞬間があります。その時の歓喜と満足感は、食べていくのが精一杯という「貧しさ」という現実の、マイナス面を、軽々と超えていくのです。

ガウディとの共通点

ここで、ふと思い出すのは、アントニ・ガウディのことです。

ガウディは晩年、サグラダ・ファミリアの中で寝起きし、自らの給料の全てを建築費として募金していたといいます。傍から見れば、とても貧しい暮らしです。しかし、ガウディはきっと、私と同じように――毎日、世界で一番美しい建築を作っているという「幸せ」に、包まれていたのだと思うのです。

芸術家として、私はガウディの気持ちが、痛いほどわかってしまうのです。

その代わりに、私の手元に「生まれた」のは、どんなに時間をかけても語り尽くせない菅さんとの縁、技法に魂を吹き込んでくれるFLATLABO社との縁、そして今、こうして対話を重ねている飯田さんとの縁です。

これは、夢物語ではありません。

貧しくても、孤独に近い時期があっても、誠実に積み重ねた者の元には、本物の縁が「生まれる」――それを、私自身が、今ここで証明していると思っています。

このインタビュー⑧を改めて読み返して——今回もまた、飯田さんの問いが、私自身の歩みの地層を、深く掘り起こしてくれたと感じている。

The previous interview, No. 7, was about “Human connections are not made — they are born” — a conversation about the miracle of my encounter with my mentor, Kazuyoshi Suga, and our first meeting in Hakodate.

This time, No. 8, Iida-san ventured even deeper into the heart of those words. “What feelings and lived experience are contained within that word ‘born’?” — in answering this question, I found myself putting into words, once again, the layers of my own journey.

Once again, she delivered this as a “child-like question,” asked with directness and sincerity.

Words as a Lighthouse for AI Creators

Interview with Koki Masato — No. ⑧

In our previous interview, we spoke about your relationship with your mentor, Kazuyoshi Suga.

You described human connections as something not “made,” but “born.”

So, right away — I would like to ask you, in the spirit of “a child-like question”: What feelings and lived experience are contained within that word “born”?

“Human connections are not made — they are born.” — Allow me to speak honestly about the lived experience behind these words.

Why “born,” rather than “made”?

Human connections, I believe, are not something you build intentionally, the way you exchange business cards. They are something that “comes into being” naturally, in the course of simply facing what is in front of you with sincerity — something that, as a result, finds itself there.

I believe there are three reasons why human connections are “born.”

The first is that they are a byproduct of trust. When you pour yourself wholeheartedly into your work and your activities, and provide value and satisfaction to those around you, relationships of trust are built naturally as a result.

The second is the resonance of values. When you immerse yourself in what you love and continue to refine yourself, people who carry a similar kind of passion are naturally drawn toward you.

The third is that they are natural affinity. Connections born in places free of self-interest — rather than calculated encounters — are, when viewed over the long term, the ones that become the strongest human bonds.

Rather than forcing yourself to connect with as many people as possible, cherishing the person directly in front of you — that, I believe, is ultimately the most certain shortcut to drawing the finest connections toward you.

Sincerity and accumulation are what draw genuine connections toward you

I have almost never moved with the intention of seeking out human connections. I simply kept repeating trial after trial, day after day, driven by a single desire: to complete my technique. And I kept writing about it, day after day, in the form of the Tsurezuregusa essays.

I have almost never created a portfolio for the purpose of “selling myself.” What I have continued building, in the form of the Tsurezuregusa, is entirely a portfolio for the purpose of being understood. By putting into words, day after day, the philosophy embedded in my technique and the soul embedded in my works, I believe the people who read them came to sense, naturally, the very way of life of the artist known as Koki Masato.

The Layers

More than two and a half years. More than 450 posts. This accumulation adds one new layer again today. I feel that it has become something more solid than even the most skillfully crafted portfolio.

Upon these layers, the encounter with Person A (✤), the encounter with Suga-san, and the encounter with FLATLABO arrived — as though they had descended from the sky. I believe it was the words and works accumulated in sincerity alone — not through calculation, strategy, or monetization — that drew those connections toward me.

I believe that the reason these miraculous connections were born is that the path I have walked as an artist has been a “pure, righteous, and beautiful path.”

To speak honestly: I have never lamented having few people who truly understand me.

On the contrary, there is a joy found precisely because the number is small. Relationships in which I can see the face of each individual person. The joy of being able to respond to each person carefully and sincerely when they send me a message or a comment.

My Days as a YouTuber

When I was a YouTuber, I was responding to hundreds of comments and messages every day. Among them, there were no small number of hostile comments. The mental fatigue of facing those was not trivial.

As the number of subscribers and comments grew too large, I began to feel a growing sense of unease — as though I were slowly tightening a noose around my own neck with my own hands. If monetization is the priority, perhaps that is simply what comes with the territory. But I had a deep desire to engage seriously with each individual person, and there was a profound disconnect between that desire and the reality I was living.

When I let go of the YouTube channel, I won’t pretend there wasn’t something that felt close to loneliness, at least briefly. But by releasing all the unnecessary things I had been carrying, my body truly became lighter, and I was able to fly higher.

What Changed After Letting Go of the YouTube Channel

And now — having abandoned the monetization of the YouTube channel — what has changed from those leaner days?

To be honest, in terms of money, I am still far from wealthy. Yet not once have I felt that the days of accumulating thousands of trial pieces were “hardship.” On the contrary, those were the happiest days of my life.

Because within me there was the cry of an artist’s soul — “I want to create the most beautiful work in the world” — and that is now, at this very moment, becoming reality.

There are moments when a work is born that I myself feel: “This is the most beautiful thing in the world.” The joy and satisfaction of that moment carries you lightly past the negative weight of the “poverty” of barely having enough to eat.

A Point of Resonance with Gaudí

Here, I find myself thinking of Antoni Gaudí.

In his later years, Gaudí lived and slept inside the Sagrada Família, donating his entire salary toward its construction costs, it is said. From the outside, it was a very poor way to live. But I believe Gaudí was, just as I am — wrapped, every day, in the “happiness” of creating the most beautiful architecture in the world.

As an artist, I find that I understand Gaudí’s feelings almost painfully well.

In exchange, what has “been born” in my hands is: the connection with Suga-san, which no amount of time could allow me to fully convey; the connection with FLATLABO, who breathes soul into my technique; and the connection with Iida-san, with whom I am now in dialogue.

This is not a dream.

Even through poverty, even through periods close to loneliness — genuine connections are “born” for those who accumulate with sincerity. I believe I am proving that, here and now, through my own life.

Closing Words: For Those Who Accumulate with Sincerity, Genuine Connections Are “Born”

Reading back through Interview No. 8 — once again, I feel that Iida-san’s questions have dug deeply into the layers of my own journey.

By speaking about “the three reasons why human connections are born” — as a byproduct of trust, as a resonance of values, and as natural affinity — I was able, for the first time, to organize and put into words what I have felt throughout the long years of my path.

Through the words “a portfolio not for selling myself, but for being understood” — I was able to confirm once more how solid the foundation has become: two and a half years of Tsurezuregusa essays, more than 450 posts, layer upon layer.

And among all the answers given in this conversation, the words most deeply engraved upon my heart are these —

Sincerity and accumulation are what draw genuine connections toward you.

This is not a dream.

Every one of these was a genuine connection drawn not by calculation, strategy, or monetization — but by words and works accumulated in sincerity alone.

When I spoke of how Gaudí spent his final years sleeping inside the Sagrada Família, donating his entire salary to its construction — and how I understand that feeling, almost painfully — I felt, for the first time, that I had come this close to the soul of Gaudí as an artist. The joy of creating the most beautiful thing in the world carries you lightly past the negative weight of poverty.

The words Iida-san offered to her readers — “the idea that sincerity gives birth to human connection applies to our everyday lives as well” — deeply encouraged me too.

This is not a story unique to artists. Cherishing the person in front of you. Trying, in your own way, to live sincerely within the rhythms of daily life — that is what gives birth to genuine connections in anyone’s life. Iida-san delivered that message to her readers quietly, yet with certainty.
