都会の水辺に打ち上がる大輪の花火は、宇宙の闇に咲く光の花のようです。

絵と同じくらい心に響いたのが、歌「光の刹那（ひかりのせつな）」です。

特に好きな歌詞の一節がこちらです。

この歌詞を書いた時、私は花火のことを書いていたはずでした。
しかし、書き終えた瞬間、これは自分自身のことだと気づきました。

正直に言います。
私には、後悔があります。
YouTuberとして数字を追いかけていた日々。「マネタイズできなければ意味がない」という声に揺れていた時間。芸術に真剣に向き合うことを、60歳を越えるまで、気が付かずに先延ばしにしていた年月——これらは、もう取り返せません。

しかし今、こうも思います。
取り返せないからこそ、残り少ない人生の今この瞬間に

「すべてを燃やす」しかない。

後悔を持ちながら、それでも前に進む人間の姿——それが「悔いなく散ってゆく」という言葉の本当の意味だと、今は理解しています。「悔いなく」とは、後悔がないということではありません。後悔を抱えたまま、それでも燃え尽きることを選んだ、ということです。

という一節について。

飯田さんは「当たり前は決して当たり前ではない」と、その奥にある意味を読んでくださいました。その通りです。

「来年の夏も」——この言葉の裏には、来年の夏が来ないかもしれない、という認識があります。私は今62歳です。あと何回、同じ夏の夜空で花火を見られるか、分かりません。
しかし、だからこそ——今年の夏の花火に、すべてを込める。

人生の残り時間

パートで生計を立てながら、芸術家として生きることを選び、50年後、100年後に評価される作品を目指した時、私は初めて「残り時間」を意識しました。
これは、裏返せば、自分はその時にはもうこの世にいないという認識の上に立っています。

私はいなくなる。しかし、作品は残る。芸術家の魂も残る。それが、私が芸術家として生きる理由です。

ガウディはサグラダ・ファミリアの完成を見ずにこの世を去りました。それでも彼は、生涯を燃やし続けた。私もまた、「ネオ・モザイック・ステンドグラス技法」が世界で正しく評価される日を見届けられないかもしれません。それでも燃やし続ける。悔いなく散るために。

Atsuko Iida’s “Words as a Lighthouse for AI Creators — Interview ⑨ with Koki Masato: Fireworks, for a Single Moment” was published on note.

The previous interview ⑧ was about “Why does sincerity draw people closer?” — a session in which I articulated the three reasons why human connections are not something one “creates,” but rather something that “comes into being”: as a byproduct of trust, as a resonance of values, and as a natural bond.

In interview ⑨, Iida-san had read deeply into Tsurezuregusa No. 295, “The Same Fireworks, A Different Light — Viewing the Height of Summer Through v8.1,” and into the French chanson “Hikari no Setsuna (A Moment of Light)” created with SUNO AI.

“For a single moment, burning everything — and still scattering without regret.” Iida-san offered this lyric back to me as a “childlike question,” asking directly what feelings I had poured into those words.

The large fireworks blooming over the city’s waterfront looked like flowers of light blooming in the darkness of the universe.
What moved me just as deeply as the artwork was the song Hikari no Setsuna (A Fleeting Moment of Light).

One line of the lyrics especially stayed with me:
“For a single moment, burn everything you have, and even then, fade away without regret.”

As a childlike question, let me ask this.
What feelings did you put into these words, Koki-san?

When I wrote these lyrics, I believed I was writing about fireworks.
But the moment I finished them, I realized they were actually about myself.

To be honest,

I have regrets.

The years when I chased numbers as a YouTuber.
The time when I was influenced by the voices saying, “If you can’t monetize it, it has no value.”
The years I kept putting off seriously pursuing art until I was over sixty, without even realizing I was doing so.

None of those years can ever be taken back.

But now, I also think this.
Precisely because they cannot be taken back, all I can do is burn everything I have in this very moment of the little time I have left.

A person who carries regret and still keeps moving forward—that, I now understand, is the true meaning of “fade away without regret.”
“Without regret” does not mean having no regrets.
It means choosing to burn yourself out even while carrying those regrets.

Iida-san, you understood the deeper meaning behind it—that what seems ordinary should never be taken for granted. That is exactly right.

“Next summer” carries the awareness that next summer may never come.
I am now 62 years old. I do not know how many more times I will be able to watch fireworks beneath the same summer night sky.

That is exactly why I pour everything into this summer’s fireworks.

The Time I Have Left

When I chose to make a living through part-time work while living as an artist, and set my sights on creating works that would be appreciated fifty or even one hundred years from now, I became aware, for the first time, of the time I have left.
At the same time, that means recognizing that I will no longer be in this world by then.
I will be gone. But my works will remain. The soul of the artist will remain as well.
That is why I choose to live as an artist.

Antoni Gaudí passed away without seeing the completion of the Sagrada Família. Even so, he continued to devote his entire life to it.
I, too, may never live to see the day when the Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique is properly recognized around the world.
Even so, I will keep burning.
So that I may fade away without regret.

Closing Words: Choosing to Burn Out, Even While Carrying Regret

Reading back through Interview ⑨ — I feel once again that Iida-san’s question quietly, yet surely, excavated the deepest place in my soul.

When I wrote the lyrics about fireworks, I believed I was writing about fireworks. Yet the moment I finished writing — I realized I was writing about myself. That sense of surprise was something I shared honestly with Iida-san this time.

“Scattering without regret” does not mean having no regrets. It means choosing to burn out completely, even while carrying regret.

The days spent chasing numbers as a YouTuber. The time I wavered at the voice saying “it has no meaning if you can’t monetize it.” The years I spent putting off facing art seriously, until I had passed the age of sixty — none of these can be taken back. But precisely because of that — there is nothing left to do but “burn everything” in this very moment.

Iida-san asked: “Are you saying that seeing fireworks in the same night sky next summer — that such an ordinary thing is by no means guaranteed?” That is exactly right. I am sixty-two years old now. I do not know how many more times I will be able to watch fireworks under the same summer night sky. And so — I pour everything into this summer’s fireworks.

Gaudí left this world without seeing the completion of the Sagrada Família. And yet he continued to burn throughout his entire life. I, too, may not live to see the day when the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” is properly recognized by the world. Even so, I will continue to burn. In order to scatter without regret.

If one does not burn, one cannot scatter. And if one cannot scatter, one cannot continue to bloom within memory.

Like countless fragments of glass, gathering to shine as one life — regrets, failures, nights of grief — all of it gathers together, and only then shines as “one life.” This is my philosophy of life and death.
