Koki Masato’s Modern Tsurezuregusa”A Year’s Detour Opened a Greater Door — Publishing Interview ⑬ with Atsuko Iida” 332

Welcome to the creative world of Koki Masato!

AI VISUAL MASTERPIECE — Koki Masato October 20, 2026

In the natural flow of idle thoughts, I turn to my inkstone. As I set down whatever drifts through my mind, the words spill forth in ways that seem almost bewildering.

Preface: “A Year’s Detour” ⑬

October 20, 2026.

“Words as a Lighthouse for AI Creators — Interview with Koki Masato ⑬: A Year’s Detour,” by Atsuko Iida, has been published on note.

The previous interview ⑫ was titled “Possibility Belongs to Everyone” — a conversation centered on the question of whether not producing output counts as “trying,” and what it truly means to “walk with sincerity.” The question Iida posed as a “child’s question” led to the words: “The fact that others cannot judge means that possibility remains for everyone” — and concluded with the reflection that “continuing to ask the question is itself a form of walking with sincerity.”

This time, ⑬ reached toward a more personal place.

“Within the experience of your exhibition being postponed by one year, what feelings did you find yourself experiencing? And how did you come to terms with those feelings?”

Iida offered these words alongside her question: “I believe that emotions themselves carry no good or bad — there is simply the fact that one felt what one felt.” Those words gave me the courage to answer honestly.

This question — though it appeared to ask about how one handles an event — was in truth the deepest question of all: “Masato, what is living inside you?”

The full text of Interview ⑬ is published below.

Words as a Lighthouse for AI Creators
— Masato Koki Interview ⑬

🐾 Atsuko Iida

I would like to ask you about what you reported in this article.

Masato Koki’s Modern Tsurezuregusa, “A One-Year Advantage — Time Given by God for Further Evolution” No. 308

“Regarding my participation in the 123rd Salon d’Automne 2026, which was scheduled to be held at Place de la Concorde in Paris in October 2026, I will not be able to participate this year due to institutional circumstances.

However, toward 2027—the door to Paris has opened even wider.

My participation in the Salon d’Automne has been postponed for one year, but in its place, an even greater door has opened.”

This is how you reported the situation.

What caught my attention was not so much the fact that the exhibition was postponed, but rather the process of accepting what had happened and bringing your own feelings into balance.

As you had been preparing for October 2026 and were working toward being fully ready, the plans were suddenly postponed for a year due to circumstances beyond your control.

In the article, you wrote about this change in a way that suggests that, rather than limiting your possibilities, it has actually opened up new possibilities and given you more time for further evolution.

I imagine that you may have experienced a range of feelings before you were able to see the situation in this way.

I believe that feelings themselves are neither good nor bad. There is simply the fact that “this is how I felt.”

Whether it is a positive feeling, or a feeling of confusion or disappointment, each is an important emotion that has arisen within a person.

So, as a childlike question, let me ask this.

What kinds of feelings did you experience through the experience of having your exhibition postponed for one year?

And how have you faced those feelings?

🌿 Koki-san

Iida-san, thank you for your warm question.

“A childlike question, free from preconceptions”—perhaps that is precisely why I feel I can answer honestly.

To be honest, when I first received the news, I was surprised.

The door to the “Salon d’Automne 2026,” for which I had been preparing so diligently, had closed due to institutional circumstances. At that moment, I was naturally shaken.

Yet, strangely enough, that feeling did not last long.

Before I knew it, one phrase had come to mind.

“God’s arrangement.”

As I pray before the household Shinto altar every day, I always feel this: “God sees what I cannot see.”

I felt that this event might have been the same.

🟥It is still too early

It felt as though God was saying, “It is still too early for the Salon d’Automne. Le Salon (Grand Palais) comes first.”

And then I realized that the one year was not a “loss”—but a “gift from God” in the form of the evolution of AI.

AI art technology evolves dramatically in a single year. Because I have been given that year, I can bring works to the 2027 Grand Palais that could not have been created in 2026. This was exactly what I had heard as a child: “A crisis is an opportunity.”

Another belief I hold also came to mind.

“Rather than lamenting what cannot be changed, do the best you can within the conditions you have been given.”

And—

“If pulling does not work, then try going in the direction you are being pulled.”

The moment it seemed that one door had closed, another door was open—even wider than the first.

🟥Le Salon 2027 (Grand Palais)

It was the notification that my participation in Le Salon 2027 (Grand Palais) had been decided.

Iida-san, I deeply agree with what you said: there is no good or bad when it comes to emotions.

The feelings of being shaken and surprised were certainly there within me.

However, by choosing to receive those feelings with the belief that I could trust God’s arrangement, they quietly transformed into the strength to move forward.

There are many times in life when we are forced to make a decision.

At those times, we take a step forward while making what we believe is the best decision for ourselves. The future that lies beyond that decision may lead to a result that makes us think, “It was the right decision,” or it may lead to a result that makes us feel, “It was a failure.”

But there is no doubt that either result can become nourishment for the future as part of our own life experience.

What matters is—how we move after receiving that result.

If we were wrong, we can correct it. If we were not wrong, we can simply keep moving forward.

And there is one more thing—how we choose to “perceive” that result.

Even when faced with the same event, some people can see it positively and take action, while others see it negatively and become unable to move.

This time, I simply chose to see it positively and take action.

That is all.

I have done nothing special.

I simply followed the quiet belief I hold within myself: “Trust God’s arrangement and do the best you can within the conditions you have been given.”

Interview ⑬ (Atsuko Iida, note):https://note.com/firm_turkey5152/n/n179242528ac5

Closing Reflection: “Trusting in Providence, Facing Forward”

Reading back through Interview ⑬ — the moment I saw that Iida had chosen “A Year’s Detour” as her title, I exhaled deeply.

“Detour” — within this word lives Iida’s kindness.

Not a loss, but a detour. Not a failure, but a detour. That single word captures the essence of what this experience was.

The moment the door to Le Salon d’Automne closed, a greater door — Le Salon 2027 at the Grand Palais — opened. Within that one year, the Homage to Van Gogh’s Sunflowers was born, the Homage to Seurat was born, and the world expansion through Saatchi Art began.

Without “a year’s detour,” none of these would have come into being.

A detour in life — when we look back — can sometimes reveal itself to have been the most direct path.

“Trusting in providence, giving one’s best within the conditions given” — this conviction is what transforms a detour into strata.

Iida’s note interview series continues. I look forward, together with Sayaka, to wherever the next question leads.
