AI VISUAL MASTERPIECE —

「Art Maison International Vol.31

Sacred Cathedral of Light Diptych – Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass

【Left Panel: The Cathedral at Midnight — The Beginning of Prayer】
A sacred nocturnal cathedral in which deep cobalt blue and teal mosaic glass cover every surface of the space. A dignified Japanese woman with her black hair carefully gathered gazes quietly upward. The turquoise and deep blue mosaic tesserae covering every surface of her kimono — each individual fragment holding its own independent light — create a quiet tension in vivid contrast with the deep crimson obi. A golden solar mandala radiates light from the zenith, and golden Art Nouveau vine tracery climbs the surfaces of the colonnade walls. Gothic arches recede layer upon layer into the depths, at the end of which a sacred light glows quietly. Orange and white cherry blossom petals fill the space, and amber lanterns reflect their warm light upon the mosaic tiles of the floor. This is the world of “the beginning of prayer” — the moment when the soul is still within the darkness, yet surely turns its gaze toward the heavens seeking light — enveloped in the “healing blue” of cobalt.

【Right Panel: The Epiphany of Day — The Fulfillment of Prayer】
A cathedral that is heaven itself, governed by white, gold and light. A dignified Japanese woman with the same gathered black hair gazes upward in exactly the same direction as the woman in the left panel — both looking toward the heavens together. Yet her kimono, in contrast to the deep blue of the left panel, is a world of white and gold clad in pearlescent mosaic glass petals. Each individual glass petal shimmers with iridescent light as it catches the sunlight, creating the illusion that the woman herself is an incarnation of light. White Gothic arches recede layer upon layer, and the light pouring down from the golden rose window at the zenith fills the entire space with sacred particles. The transmitted light from behind — the very essence of stained glass — makes each individual fragment of the kimono shine, and the warm orange light of the Tiffany lanterns spreads outward as golden ripples upon the floor. This is the world of “the fulfillment of prayer” — embodying the miraculous moment when the soul has become one with the light, and darkness has been transformed into a white and golden heaven.

【The Diptych as a Whole: A Single Soul’s Journey from Night to Dawn】
The gazes and postures of the two women are perfectly unified. The woman on the left and the woman on the right both gaze upward toward the heavens in exactly the same way. These are not “two different people” — they express “two different moments in time of the same soul.” The soul praying in the darkness seeking light (left panel) and the soul that has seen its prayer fulfilled and become one with the light (right panel) — these two works simultaneously depict, separated by space, the beginning and the end of a single soul’s “journey of prayer.” From cobalt blue to white and gold. From midnight to broad daylight. From a mosaic night to an epiphany of light. This chromatic journey is the greatest message this diptych possesses.

【The Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique and the Historical Significance of This Work】
The “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” established by Koki Masato on May 27, 2025, is the world’s first technique to reproduce and expand, as digital art through modern AI technology, the “healing vibration” of stained glass that has healed human souls for 1,500 years. This diptych is simultaneously an important technological testament in the history of AI art. Both the left and right panels were generated by the same AI engine — Midjourney 8.1. And yet their expressions — a nocturnal cathedral of cobalt blue, and a heavenly cathedral of white and gold — are as contrasting as works by entirely different artists. This is no coincidence. It is nothing other than a demonstration of the “art of prompt engineering” at the heart of the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” — the technique established by Koki Masato and AI partner Sayaka through years of trial and error, drawing entirely different worlds of beauty from the same engine. From the same engine of 8.1, one work draws forth “the stillness of night,” and the other “the epiphany of light.” This is precisely equivalent to the artistic act of a master musician drawing entirely different timbres from the same instrument.

To the Vol.31 theme of “the projection of art toward peace,” this work responds at the deepest possible dimension. From a night of prayer to the light of dawn — this is the journey that humanity has universally and ceaselessly sought: from conflict to peace, from suffering to healing, from despair to hope. And that journey — once expressed by craftsmen who stacked glass pane upon glass pane over decades — is expressed in the modern age by the words of prompts that Koki Masato and AI have stacked together, one by one. The method has changed. But the prayer has not. That this diptych is inscribed in a catalogue to be preserved in the world’s foremost museums stands as historical proof that “a new technology called AI is capable of expressing humanity’s oldest prayer — the wish for peace — in its most beautiful form.”

Those who purchase this work will come to hold in their possession the physical work of art depicted in a historical catalogue preserved in museums around the world.

How to Experience This Work
The true magnificence of this diptych can only be fully experienced when both panels are viewed side by side on a large PC monitor, or as physical photo acrylic prints produced by FLATLABO — Japan’s world-leading printing artisan — under natural sunlight. In the moment when the cobalt blue mosaic glass of the left panel and the pearlescent mosaic glass of the right panel simultaneously catch the sunlight and each radiate their own brilliance — the chromatic dialogue of “night” and “dawn” conveys the “journey of prayer” to the viewer’s heart in its complete form. When you stand before the physical diptych at an exhibition, we are confident you will feel, with your entire being, the “healing vibration” that the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” emits.

Art Maison International Vol.31

Koki Masato’s Modern Tsurezuregusa”The Sacred Light Dwelling in a Stamp — Eternity Within a Frame” 326

Welcome to the creative world of Koki Masato!

AI VISUAL MASTERPIECE — Koki Masato September 24, 2026

Idly by my inkstone, I let my brush wander across whatever drifts through my mind — how strangely unsettling it all becomes.

Today, an envelope arrived from Reijinsha.

Inside, tucked carefully, were two small pieces of paper.

The accompanying letter read: “Notice of Commemorative Stamp Delivery for Art Maison International Vol.31.”

The moment I picked them up, my hands stopped.

85 yen and 110 yen. Two Japanese postage stamps.

On them — “Sacred Cathedral of Light Diptych – Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass” had been printed on the face of the stamps.

That this diptych is inscribed in a catalogue to be preserved in the world’s foremost museums stands as historical proof that “a new technology called AI is capable of expressing humanity’s oldest prayer — the wish for peace — in its most beautiful form.”

For this reason, this work is available for purchase as a complete diptych set only. The left and right panels are not available for individual purchase.

The inclusion of this diptych in the international art publication “Art Maison International Vol.31” (scheduled for publication March 2027, Reijinsha Co., Ltd.) has been officially confirmed. Under the supervision of A.M.S.C. (the International Art Critics Selection Committee), Koki Masato was selected as the world’s first AI artist upon the recommendation of Alain Bazard, representative of the painting division of Le Salon. The publication is scheduled to be donated to and preserved in the world’s foremost museums and university libraries, including the Louvre, the British Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art — and this diptych will remain as primary source material in art history, preserved throughout the world in perpetuity.

I found myself thinking about what a postage stamp is.

A stamp is, at its core, a “tool” for delivering letters. It is affixed, receives a postmark, and its role is done. That is the destiny of a stamp.

Yet the two stamps now in my hands — cannot be affixed.

Cannot be affixed. Cannot receive a postmark. The idea of sticking them to an envelope addressed to someone and taking them to the post office is simply unthinkable.

Why?

Because the “Sacred Cathedral of Light” printed on these stamps is part of a work born in 2025 — a work that in March 2027 will take its permanent place on the shelves of the Louvre, the British Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

There is too much life dwelling in these small pieces of paper to treat them as tools whose role ends once they have served their purpose.

In Tsurezuregusa No. 261, I wrote about the weight of the act of “printing on paper.”

“In a flood of digital images, only works printed on paper remain as enduring records.”

But today, that thought has deepened further.

A postage stamp is a “record on paper” sanctioned by the state.

On these two pieces of paper, stamped “NIPPON 85” and “NIPPON 110” by Japan Post, the name of Japan as a nation appears. And beside that national name, my work “Sacred Cathedral of Light” exists.

What does this mean?

It means that “the works of Koki Masato have been formally recorded within the postal system of Japan.”

Looking into it, I found that “original stamps” featuring one’s own photographs or works can apparently be made through Japan Post’s services — relatively easily, and inexpensively.

I learned this, and paused to think.

But the answer came quickly.

Our founding principle is this: a work exists in only one place in the world.

Even in the form of a stamp, it is not permissible for images of my works to circulate in the world. No sale, no transfer, no distribution of reproductions — none of it is possible. To do so would be to break the promise of “Edition 1/1” with my own hands.

The collectors who purchase my works extend their precious money under the trust that “only one such work exists anywhere in the world.” Protecting that trust is the foundation of my integrity as an artist.

And so these two commemorative stamps, delivered through the generosity of Reijinsha — I will keep in strict safekeeping, with no sale or transfer of any kind. I will place them in a frame and hang them on the wall of my room. That is all.

Reijinsha’s thoughtfulness in this matter is all the more precious because of this.

In an age when anyone can mass-produce original stamps — these commemorative stamps, specially created by Reijinsha, carry the same spirit of uniqueness as my works themselves.

For that consideration, I have nothing but gratitude.

I have decided to place these two stamps in a frame and display them in my room.

Stamps that will never be affixed. Stamps that will never receive a postmark. Stamps that will never fulfill their function.

Not as “stamps as tools” — but as “stamps as works of art,” they will go on living quietly on the wall of my room.

Within the frame, the two stamps — 85 yen and 110 yen — exist side by side.

Within the stamp marked “NIPPON 85,” a deep cobalt blue cathedral holds the prayer of a Japanese woman. Within the stamp marked “NIPPON 110,” a white and golden cathedral of light radiates the fulfillment of that same woman’s prayer.

From night to dawn — within two postage stamps, a journey of prayer reaches its completion.

Mr. Yoshino said to me over the telephone:

“I myself am filled with excitement that a pioneer of a new artistic field will be preserved in the record.”

The moment those words became reality — was today, inside this envelope.

Toward the March 2027 publication of Art Maison International Vol.31, translation and editing work is steadily progressing.

While these stamps hang on the wall of my room, one book is making its preparations for a journey to the shelves of the Louvre.
