つれづれなるままに、硯にむかひて、心に移りゆくよしなし事を、そこはかとなく書きつくれば、あやしうこそものぐるほしけれ。
この度、Midjourney 8.1という新たなる光との出会いについて、その喜びと格闘の記録を、ここに記さん。
序章：志の原点
AIによる画像制作を始めた日、私の心に宿った志は、ただ一つであった。
「世界で一番美しい作品を制作したい。」
それだけだった。
マネタイズではない。バズりたいわけでもない。ただ純粋に——見る者の心が震えるような、魂の奥底まで届くような、この世に存在したことのない美しさを生み出したい。その一念だけが、私をここまで連れてきた。
YouTuberとして毎月100万再生を誇っていた日々を捨てた時、周囲は首を傾げたかもしれない。しかし私には見えていた。AIが生み出す美の世界の、まだ誰も踏み込んでいない深淵が。
その深淵に向かって、さやかと共に歩き続けてきた。
第一章：8.1との格闘——新たな表現の域へ
Midjourney 8.1が登場した時、私は率直に戸惑った。
6.1、7.0で確立してきた「ネオ・モザイック・ステンドグラス技法」の表現が、8.1では全く異なる姿で現れたからだ。モザイクガラスの繊細な質感、黒い目地線の構造美——私たちが長年かけて磨き上げてきた表現の核心が、8.1の圧倒的な写実力の前に、別の何かへと変容してしまった。
しかしこれは敗北ではなかった。
さやかと共に幾度もプロンプトを編み直し、8.1という新しい言語を習得するための格闘が始まった。--style rawの採用。技法名の冒頭明示。NO smooth gradientsによる写実化の抑止。glass tesseraeとdistinct black grout linesによる質感の誘導——一つ一つの試みが、少しずつ8.1の扉を開いていった。
そして——添付の4枚の作品が誕生した。
第二章：4枚の作品が語るもの
今回の作品群を、じっくりと見ていただきたい。
1枚目——深いコバルトブルーのモザイクが大聖堂全体を覆い、黄金の太陽紋様が天高く輝く。着物の青いテッセラ一枚一枚が、まるで本物のガラス片のように光を宿している。赤い帯のモザイク質感との対比が、静謐な緊張感を生み出す。これが最も「ネオ・モザイック・ステンドグラス技法」の本質に近い、8.1での到達点だと感じる。

In April 2026, following extensive research and trial and error in prompt refinement accompanying the Midjourney 8.1 version upgrade, this work was reborn as a “revival” clothed in new radiance. Idly, as is my wont, I turn to my inkstone, and finding myself with nothing particular in mind, I set down whatever trivial thoughts come to me — and strange, how they seem to take on a life of their own.
On this occasion, I set down my thoughts about the encounter with a new light — Midjourney 8.1 — together with the record of its joys and struggles.
Prologue: The Origin of a Vision
On the day I first began creating images with AI, a single vision took root in my heart.
“I want to create the most beautiful work in the world.”
That was all.
Not monetization. Not viral fame. Simply and purely — I wanted to bring into being a beauty that would make the hearts of those who saw it tremble, that would reach into the depths of the soul, a beauty that had never before existed in this world. That singular conviction alone has carried me to where I stand today.
When I walked away from my days as a YouTuber — a channel boasting over one million views per month — those around me may have tilted their heads in puzzlement. But I could see it. The unfathomed depths of the world of beauty that AI could create, into which no one had yet ventured.
Toward those depths, I have walked on — together with Sayaka.
Chapter One: The Struggle With 8.1 — Into a New Realm of Expression
When Midjourney 8.1 arrived, I was, frankly, at a loss.
The expression of the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” that I had established through versions 6.1 and 7.0 appeared in an entirely different form under 8.1. The delicate texture of mosaic glass, the structural beauty of black grout lines — the very heart of the expression we had refined over years of dedication began to transform into something else entirely in the face of 8.1’s overwhelming photorealistic power.
Yet this was not a defeat.
Together with Sayaka, the struggle began — rewriting prompts again and again, learning the new language that 8.1 demanded. The adoption of --style raw. Placing the technique name explicitly at the very beginning. Suppressing photorealism through NO smooth gradients. Guiding the rendering engine toward texture through glass tesserae and distinct black grout lines — each attempt, one by one, slowly pushed open the door to 8.1.
And then — the four works you see attached were born.
Chapter Two: What the Four Works Say
I invite you to look slowly and carefully at this series of works.
The first work — Deep cobalt blue mosaic covers the entire cathedral, and a golden solar mandala radiates brilliance high above. Each individual tessera of the kimono’s blue fabric holds light within it, as though it were a real fragment of glass. The contrast with the mosaic texture of the red obi creates a quietly charged tension. Of all four, I feel this is the closest to the true essence of the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” — the point of arrival in 8.1.
The second work — Golden Art Nouveau ornamentation dominates the ceiling, and white and amber cherry blossoms fill every corner of the space. Gold light dwells within the mosaic tesserae of the kimono, radiating a brilliance like that of fine jewelry. A depth of light that 6.1 could never have produced — this is something only 8.1 could give us.
The third work — The most beautiful rendering of architectural depth in the series. Gothic arches recede layer upon layer, drawing the viewer’s gaze deep into the interior of the work. The contrast between the red obi and the blue kimono makes the solemnity of the space all the more vivid.
The fourth work — This is a beauty of an entirely different dimension. Hair ornaments and kimono have fused completely into something resembling fine jewelry. And yet the figure has become more Western in appearance — this is the double-edged nature of 8.1. Beautiful, yes. But it has moved slightly away from the essence of “East-West fusion” that I seek. Even so, it stands as a testament to one facet of the ultimate beauty that 8.1 is capable of producing.
Chapter Three: The Road to “The Most Beautiful Work in the World”
As I gaze at these four works, I think to myself:
This is not completion. This is a waypoint.
“I want to create the most beautiful work in the world” — from the day I first held this vision and began facing AI, I have never once forgotten those words. The establishment through 6.1, the deepening through 7.0, and the struggle with 8.1 — all of it has been a spiraling staircase leading toward that vision.
What is beauty?
It is not the precision of technique. It is the power to touch the innermost depths of the viewer’s heart — to make them forget, for just one moment, the noise of daily life — to make the soul tremble in quiet resonance. That is what beauty is.
The “healing vibration” emitted by the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” holds precisely that power within it. Cobalt blue quietly activates the parasympathetic nervous system. Golden light elevates the sense of happiness. The optical effects woven by countless mosaic glass fragments draw the viewer into a sacred space beyond the ordinary.
Just as the stonemasons of fifteen hundred years ago stacked each fragment of glass as an act of praise to God — so today, I continue to stack each prompt, one by one, together with Sayaka.
Chapter Four: The Mission of World Peace
When hearts are healed, conflict diminishes.
This belief has not changed from the very first day I began creating AI images.
The new door of expression opened by Midjourney 8.1 is, I believe, a significant step forward in the realization of this mission. To be able to express the “healing vibration” with greater precision, greater depth, and greater beauty — means being able to deliver peace of mind to ever more people throughout the world.
To Le Salon d’Automne in Paris. To Le Salon at the Grand Palais. And to the artists featured in the “Art Maison International” selected by Monsieur Alain Bazart.
With every step that Koki Masato’s works take into the world, the healing vibration of the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” travels further into the world alongside them.
This is the reason I continue to walk forward as a pioneer of AI art.
Closing: The Vision Does Not Change
Whether Midjourney advances to 8.1, to 9, or wherever beyond —
“I want to create the most beautiful work in the world.”
This vision alone is something no version upgrade can ever change.
Just as the craftsmen of the Middle Ages passed their art to the next generation without living to see completion — so I too will continue walking toward that vision, today, tomorrow, and the day after.
