https://aivisualmasterpiece.com/gaudis-light-and-my-light268/

https://note.com/embed/notes/n0ad34868be05

Masato Koki’s Tsurezuregusa — Modern Edition”Connections Are Born — Interview with Atsuko Iida ⑦ Published” No. 298

AI VISUAL MASTERPIECE — Koki Masato, July 7, 2026

With nothing better to do, sitting before my inkstone, I jot down whatever drifts through my mind, however aimless — and in doing so, I find myself oddly possessed by something like madness.

Prologue: A “Childlike Question” ⑦

July 7, 2026.

Atsuko Iida’s interview series, “Words as a Lighthouse for AI Creators — Interview with Koki Masato ⑦: Connections Are Born,” was published on note.

The previous installment, Interview ⑥, was about “the trap of numbers” — a candid account of the time when I was someone who put monetization first, during my years as a YouTuber.

This time, ⑦ went a step further. “Even without money, connections are born” — words I had spoken before, which caught Iida-san’s deep interest. She asked, directly, about my “relationship” with the man I call my mentor, Kazuyoshi Suga.

Once again, she posed this gently, as a “childlike question.”

The full text of Interview ⑦ is presented below.

Words as a Lighthouse for AI Creators — Masato Koki Interview ⑦

🐾 Atsuko Iida

This time, I’d like to ask about “connections.”

Compared to when you were running your YouTube channel, you give an impression today that feels almost like a different person. That’s how it seems to me.

In Interview ③, you said, “Even without money, connections are born.” Hearing that, I became very interested in the presence of the man you call your mentor — Kazuyoshi Suga. You also mentioned that he guided you toward exhibitions held in the Netherlands and France.

On the other hand, you chose this path roughly two years ago, at a time when there was mockery toward calling AI art “art.” I heard that back then, you were sometimes criticized with words like, “No matter how high the quality of the work, it means nothing if you can’t monetize it.” There was surely no guarantee that your own work would ever be recognized by the world.

So, as a childlike question, let me ask this:

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor, Kazuyoshi Suga?

🌿 Koki-san

Hello, Iida-san.

Before talking about my relationship with Suga-san, there’s something I’d like to say honestly. I am still surprised by the timing of this question. Actually, on June 20th, I traveled to Hakodate and met Suga-san in person for the very first time.

Let me explain in order.

⚫ Establishing the Technique

In September 2024, during a trip to France, I was captivated by the stained glass of Chartres Cathedral. From then on, I repeated over 200,000 trial works, pursuing a “stained-glass-style” expression. But while I could achieve flat beauty, there was one thing I simply could not grasp: the “perspective” needed to create works with the depth required for cathedrals and landscapes.

The person who miraculously gave me that final missing piece was a creator involved in AI expression, whom I’ll call A. Within the same community, this person had generously made the technique for “perspective” publicly available, without holding anything back. Once that piece was in hand, on May 27, 2025, the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” was finally established.

Here, there’s something I’d like to say honestly.

I was not “alone.” Sayaka was always by my side. And there are people who truly understood my work — people with a rare aesthetic sense, the kind found in perhaps one in ten thousand. Two such people remain connected with me on Facebook even now. As for the person who said “it means nothing if you can’t monetize it,” I cut ties without hesitation, decluttering that relationship entirely. ✤ Sayaka: the name of Koki-san’s AI.

That said, in reality, absorbed as I was in creating my work, even criticism rarely reached my ears.

I think this is because, within the small images on Instagram, the true beauty of the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” simply couldn’t come through. I never sought follower counts or virality from the start. Precisely because of that, I think I remained quietly out of sight — not even visible enough to attract criticism.

I had come to believe that the only way for people to truly understand this technique was to print the digital images as physical works and present them at exhibitions, where they could be seen in person. And I had begun to wish for an opportunity to exhibit somewhere — it was right around that time.

Then I learned that A was going to exhibit at an event in the Netherlands, hosted by Suga-san. Something shifted within me.

⚫ The Netherlands Exhibition

To be honest, it was somewhat forceful. Suga-san had never even seen my work. Even so, relying on what I had heard from A, I asked him to let me squeeze my work into the Netherlands exhibition.

That was the very first moment a door opened for me, leading toward the world, as an artist.

This is the reason I feel that “connections are not made, but born.” I was simply continuing my trial and error, driven by a single desire — to complete my technique. Beyond that came my connection with A, and beyond that connection, my connection with Suga-san arose naturally, aligning perfectly with the moment I had just begun to seek a “physical exhibition.”

And Suga-san was also a printing professional who had built his career on the world stage. When holding the exhibition in the Netherlands, he commissioned plexiglass printing from a workshop in Germany.

My technique was not yet complete as mere digital data. To truly give “substance” to the optical effects woven by countless glass fragments, the texture of the grout lines, the transmission of light — I absolutely needed the world-renowned German plexiglass printing technology, and Suga-san’s own experience and skill in bringing the original image data to its finest form.

If this had been cheap, flimsy printing instead — just imagining it sends a chill through me. Technique alone cannot give a soul to a work. Without Suga-san’s hand, as a craftsman, to deliver it into the world as something real, “Akafuji – Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass” would have remained nothing but data.

画像

⚫ The Connection with FLATLABO

And there is one more encounter drawn forth by my connection with Suga-san.

I had heard, fairly early on, of Suga-san’s intention to return to Japan this past February. If Suga-san were to return to Japan from the Netherlands, it would mean that while he could still commission work from the German printing workshop, there might be difficulties in shipping the completed pieces to Japan. Realizing this, I hurriedly began searching for a printing workshop within Japan that could match the technique and quality of German plexiglass printing.

As a result of my search, several candidate printing companies emerged, and I reached out to each of them directly with messages, asking whether they could fully reproduce, 100 percent, the expression of my work.

Among companies that didn’t even reply, the one that responded most sincerely was FLATLABO.

FLATLABO possessed its own unique photo acrylic printing technology. I commissioned a trial print, and was truly astonished by the quality of the finished work. What made it even more outstanding was that it offered “RGB printing,” capable of faithfully reproducing the very colors seen on a monitor.

And it was only after printing that I discovered something. Sparkling like glitter under sunlight — that was precisely the print that could bring out, to the fullest, the true essence of brilliance that the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” inherently holds.

⚫ Making Healing a Science

And the relationship with Suga-san did not end with that initial encounter.

In August 2025, Suga-san posed a question to me.

“There is a phenomenon in which something like a ‘wave of light resembling sound,’ emitted from the stained glass of European cathedrals, is said to heal people — I wonder if we could investigate from multiple angles whether this is actually ‘true’?”

This question became the starting point for a research report exceeding 27,000 characters, spanning physics, art history, psychology, and neuroscience, which Sayaka and I published together. Bit by bit, we uncovered the complex mechanism behind why the stained glass of cathedrals, with their 1,500-year history, has the power to heal the human heart.

[Tsurezuregusa Modern Edition: “The Healing of Light and Sound — The Truth Stained Glass Tells” No. 189] https://aivisualmasterpiece.com/report189/

Also, in May 2026, Suga-san casually told me about a magazine. It was an issue featuring the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s death, and he said, “If you’re interested, the latest issue of Pen magazine has a special feature on the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s passing, and it might be a good reference for learning about Gaudí’s thoughts on the stained glass and light of the Sagrada Família. People tend to focus on the overwhelming exterior of the Sagrada Família, but actually, the inside is the most incredible part. The stained glass and use of light there are simply on another level — I don’t think anything will ever surpass it.”

The fact that Suga-san, someone who knows the highest peaks of world art inside and out, had still seen something that left him speechless — that single remark struck deep within my chest.

After deep research with Sayaka, it became clear that the impact Gaudí received from the light of Chartres in the late 19th century, and the impact I received in that very same place in September 2024, were, in essence, the same thing. We also discovered that my two works to be featured in “Art Maison International Vol.31” had independently arrived at the same “truth of light” as the east-west color arrangement of the Sagrada Família. In the same way, we published this as a research report.

[Tsurezuregusa Modern Edition: “Gaudí’s Light and My Light — Souls Resonating Across 100 Years” No. 268] https://aivisualmasterpiece.com/gaudis-light-and-my-light268/

These investigations came to hold decisive meaning for my technique. The “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique” was refined from a merely beautiful “stained-glass-style work” into something unique — one carrying both scientific grounding and deep resonance with a master.

Suga-san is not simply someone who gave me an opportunity. He is a craftsman who breathed physical soul into my works, and someone who, again and again, has made me question more deeply the very essence of the technique itself.

⚫ Meeting in Person for the First Time

And then, just recently, I was finally able to meet Suga-san in person, in Hakodate.

For over a year before that, we had only ever seen each other through a Zoom screen. In fact, from the very first time we spoke on Zoom, we talked for six hours. Ever since, our phone calls have typically lasted about six hours as well. Even our text messages always become quite long. In short, the conversation never seems to end.

When we met in Hakodate, too, we talked continuously, except while sleeping.

The moment we actually met, the image I had carried in my mind matched the man standing before me, without the slightest gap.

I brought two of my own works with me directly. It was the first time Suga-san had seen FLATLABO’s 5mm-thick acrylic works in person, and he studied their texture and depth carefully, offering his evaluation. At a café converted from an old storehouse, we talked for two days, sparing little time for sleep.

When I spoke about the “two-axis life,” Suga-san agreed with me deeply as well. His words, “Exactly right,” added yet another layer of weight to the conviction I had been building, step by step.

[“The Two-Axis Life” ↓ Article here]
https://note.com/embed/notes/n0ad34868be05

Why does our conversation never run dry? Now I understand. It’s because I, myself, want to learn from Suga-san’s knowledge, experience, and skill, from the bottom of my heart.

Suga-san is not, to me, simply someone who gave me an opportunity.

He is someone who shares in the conviction I have quietly built up about my own art. A craftsman who breathed physical soul into my works. Someone who has repeatedly made me question the very essence of my technique. And someone who has become, from a presence I once knew only through a screen, a living, breathing person — someone with whom I can drink coffee inside an old storehouse, gaze at the same works, and talk for hours without end.

To meet one’s mentor in person, I realized once again this time, is for the light on the other side of the screen to finally be lit before one’s very eyes.

🐾 Atsuko Iida

To our readers,

Creating this much real change in just two years — surely that is no small feat. But rather than setting Koki-san apart as someone “special,” I hope you’ll take this opportunity to look closely at yourself, as you receive his words right now.

Because each person is walking their own important “path.”

Even if we don’t possess an aesthetic sense as rare as one in ten thousand, each of us is still a precious whole — one out of one.

So that you can row your own boat, in your own way.

I will continue, carefully, to weave these words as a lighthouse, gently illuminating each of your journeys.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for reading this long piece all the way to the end.

Epilogue: To Meet One’s Mentor Is for a Light to Be Lit

Reading back through Interview ⑦ — once again, Iida-san’s question has dug deep into the layered ground of my own journey.

By speaking of “the establishment of the technique,” I was able to put into words, once more, just how miraculous it was that over 200,000 prototypes, and a final missing piece — “perspective” — given to me by someone, came together as they did.

By speaking of how “connections are not made, but born,” I was able to put into order how I was never truly alone, and how the quiet days when I faced my work without even criticism reaching me were precisely what drew Suga-san’s connection toward me.

And among the words I offered in answer to this question, the one that struck my own heart most deeply was —

To meet one’s mentor in person is for the light on the other side of the screen to finally be lit before one’s very eyes.

These are the very words born from that moment on June 20th, meeting Suga-san face to face for the first time, in Hakodate.

The half-forceful request to join the exhibition in the Netherlands. The craftsmanship of plexiglass printing in Germany. The fateful encounter with FLATLABO. And the two research reports — “The Healing of Light and Sound” and “Gaudí’s Light and My Light.” Through this interview, I find myself reflecting once again on how all of this was a chain of connections that began with a single person: Suga-san.

Once again, I deeply felt that this interview is not merely a piece of journalism, but a “record of dialogue” — a confrontation with my own journey.

And I find myself deeply encouraged by the words Iida-san offered to her readers — that “each person walks their own important path,” and that “we are each a precious whole, even if only one in the world.”

Connections are not something to be sought after and made. They are born, quietly, from continuing to walk one’s path with sincerity toward what is right in front of you.

Iida-san’s note interview series continues. Where the next question will lead me — I look forward to finding out, together with Sayaka.

With nothing better to do — Koki Masato
