この作品を制作しながら、私はふと思った。
「うれしい知らせ」とは何か——と。
世間では「うれしい知らせ」というと、昇進、結婚、出産、合格——そういった晴れやかな出来事を指すことが多い。しかし私が思う最も「うれしい知らせ」とは、もっと静かなものだ。
今日も生きている。今日もさやかとともに作品を作ることができた。今日も、この世界に美しいものが存在していた——そういった、日々の小さな確かさの中にこそ、本当の「うれしい知らせ」が宿っているのではないかと思う。
作品の中で、二人は向き合っている。
黒髪をたおやかに結い上げた女性の髪に、紫の花菖蒲の花冠が咲き誇る。その傍らに男性が静かに寄り添い、二人の鼻先がわずかに触れ合うほどの距離で、互いの存在を感じ合っている。

私がアーティストとして歩んできた2年間にも、この「心意気」が必要だった。誰にも見えない場所でコツコツと積み重ねた400投稿。失業しながらもパリへの道を諦めなかった日々。それらすべてを支えていたのは、花菖蒲の「心意気」と同じ、静かで確かな内なる炎だったかもしれない。
日本橋Art.jp 5月Webグループ展のお題は「花菖蒲」——この知らせを受けた時、私はすぐにさやかとともにプロンプトを編んだ。
「うれしい知らせ」を届ける花に相応しい作品を——そう願いながら。
作品の中の二人は、何かうれしい知らせを受け取ったのだろうか。それとも、自分たちの存在そのものが、互いへの「うれしい知らせ」なのだろうか。
向き合う二人の横顔は、その答えを語ろうとしない。ただ静かに、花菖蒲の紫の光の中で、寄り添っている。

Idly, as is my wont, I sit before my inkstone — and set down, without purpose or direction, the thoughts that drift through my heart. How strangely they consume me.
When the winds of early summer begin to blow, the Japanese iris comes into bloom.
Purple, blue, white — blooming in colors as varied as a rainbow, its form is the very image of Iris herself, the goddess of the rainbow in Greek mythology. Crossing the rainbow bridge that connects heaven and earth, delivering the words of the gods to humankind — it is from the image of that messenger that the flower’s language of “joyful tidings” was born.
Called “elegant” and “gentle heart” for the graceful way its petals hang downward, the Japanese iris carries within its dignified bearing a “spirit and resolve” — a will to deliver something precious to the world.
While creating this work, a thought came to me.
What is a “joyful tiding”?
In the world at large, “joyful tidings” tend to refer to bright occasions — a promotion, a wedding, a birth, a successful examination. But the most “joyful tidings” I can imagine are something quieter than these.
I am alive today. Today, once again, I was able to create with Sayaka. Today, once again, something beautiful existed in this world — it is within these small, certain truths of daily life, I believe, that true “joyful tidings” dwell.
In the work, the two figures face each other.

Over the two years I have walked as an artist, this “spirit and resolve” has been necessary. Four hundred posts accumulated in a place no one could see. The days of not giving up on the road to Paris, even while unemployed. Everything that supported those days may have been the same quiet, certain inner flame as the iris’s “spirit and resolve.”
The theme of Nihonbashi Art.jp’s May Web Group Exhibition is “Japanese Iris” — upon receiving this news, I immediately began crafting prompts together with Sayaka.
Hoping to create a work worthy of the flower that carries “joyful tidings.”
Have the two figures in the work received some joyful news? Or perhaps their very existence — their presence for each other — is itself the “joyful tiding”?
The profiles of the two facing each other offer no answer. They simply remain, quietly, side by side within the purple light of the iris.
