The greatest characteristic of this work is the exquisite pearl ornamentation of the hair ornaments and the front-hanging portion of the kimono. Within a canvas dominated by the golden yamabuki color, the white radiance of the pearls stands out as the sole “cold light,” further elevating the woman’s grace. Pearls — born from the ocean’s depths, they are crystals of time and patience. Just as the yamabuki blossom carries the legend of “a gold coin transformed into a flower,” pearls too are miracles of “a grain of sand transformed into a jewel.” These two miracles meet within one work, completing a world of “grace and sublimity.”

Each fan-shaped petal is arranged as though to embrace the woman within golden palms, with the woman quietly dwelling at their center. This is no mere background decoration. It is a composition of deep intent — the yamabuki blossoms depicted as “a protective presence for the woman.” A gratitude to Ms. S — just as you embraced us, her bereaved family, these yamabuki petals too hold this goddess gently in their care.

“In the full bloom of the yamabuki blossom, to be able to meet you like this — may it continue for a thousand years.” — Otomo no Yakamochi (Man’yōshū). The figure of the goddess, pearl ornaments trailing, eyes closed in prayer, embodies this Man’yō vow across 1,300 years of time. As cherry blossoms drift and scatter in the spring breeze, golden yamabuki blooms in full splendor —
In the season of spring hanami, I wish to deliver the golden light of the yamabuki.
“Yamabuki no — hana no sakari ni — kaku no goto — kimi wo mimaku wa — chitose ni mogamo” — Otomo no Yakamochi (Man’yōshū)
“In the full bloom of the yamabuki blossom, to be able to meet you like this — may it continue for a thousand years.”
Carrying within my heart this 1,300-year-old Man’yō prayer, this spring — I am pleased to announce my participation in the Nihonbashi Art.jp Web Group Exhibition “Hanami Exhibition,” presenting “Goddess of Yamabuki — Grace and Sublimity — Neo Mosaic Stained Glass.”

The Thoughts Held Within the Yamabuki Blossom
The yamabuki has been beloved since ancient times as a symbol of “grace,” “sublimity,” and “good fortune.” The color “yamabuki” — once gracing the robes of the imperial aristocracy — has been expressed here through the full mastery of the “Neo-Mosaic Stained Glass Technique.”
Pearls sway, golden petals dance — the goddess closes her eyes quietly, as though in prayer.
The kimono, woven of orange, gold, and silver-white stained glass mosaic, reveals a different expression with every shift of the light. Great yamabuki petals surround and gently embrace the goddess from all sides. This is the most lavishly splendid yet most serene work in the series — created with gratitude and prayer for Ms. S.

The three-color stained glass mosaic of the kimono — orange, deep gold, and silver-white — is a color design consciously evoking the “healing wavelength” radiated by the stained glass of Chartres Cathedral. Through the integration of each fragment, the work radiates “healing vibrations” that promote alpha waves in the hearts of those who behold it.

The Story Behind This Work — Gratitude to Ms. S
This work carries a very special meaning.
In March 2026, during my mother’s funeral, the funeral director Ms. S — who had overseen everything with such warmth and care — happened to mention, “I have always loved the color of yamabuki.” It was from that single word that this work was born.
Just as Ms. S enveloped us, her bereaved family, in her care that day, these yamabuki petals gently embrace this goddess.
“Yamabuki no — hana no sakari ni — kaku no goto — kimi wo mimaku wa — chitose ni mogamo”
May Ms. S’s life shine like the yamabuki in full bloom — golden, resplendent, and filled with happiness. For a thousand years to come —
