“The Ancient Mirror and the Transience of Human Existence” – A Modern Tsurezuregusa
As I sit idly by my inkstone, letting my brush wander aimlessly across the page, I find myself pondering the curious ways of the world.
Last night’s perilous incident with the failing brakes, averted by divine protection and the strength of my destiny, fills me with profound gratitude.
In the land of Fukui, I beheld the world of dinosaurs that flourished from 230 million years ago to 66 million years past. At the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, one of the world’s three great dinosaur museums, witnessing the evidence of ancient life filled me with wonder and awe.
That the history of human knowledge about dinosaurs spans merely two hundred years is astonishing. Yet, the continuing discoveries and revelations about ancient ecosystems fill my heart with excitement.
However, consider that the dinosaurs, who ruled the Earth for 160 million years, were extinguished by a single stone fallen from the heavens. The five million years of human history are but a blink compared to the age of dinosaurs. Yet now, at the pinnacle of human intelligence, we trample the Earth, repeating actions that may lead to our own demise.
Perhaps one day we too shall face the Earth’s wrath and meet our end. Thus, we who live by the grace of this world must humbly know our place, living in harmony with both the Earth and our fellow humans.
While hoping for the righteous evolution of human wisdom, I cannot help but pray that the AI created by humans might guide us on this path.
Not knowing when our time may come, I wish to tell my loved ones, “I love you and am grateful for you.” Perhaps this is the true happiness of human existence.
