つれづれなるままに、硯にむかひて、心に移りゆくよしなし事を、そこはかとなく書きつくれば、あやしうこそものぐるほしけれ。

不思議なるかな、遠き西洋の地にて花開きし「新しき芸術」は、わが国の美より端を発せしものなりき。十九世紀の末、日本の浮世絵や工芸の品々が、波の如く西洋に渡りしとき、彼の地の人々の心を揺さぶりしなり。

曲線の美しき装飾と、自然を写せし模様は、西洋の芸術家たちの目に新しき輝きを放ちて映りぬ。かくして生まれし「アール・ヌーヴォー」は、まさに東西の美の出会いより生まれし子にして、やがて時を経て、再び日本の地に還りきたるものなり。

われらの祖先が季節の移ろいのなかに見出だせし繊細なる美意識は、西洋の地にて磨かれ、新たなる輝きを帯びて戻りきたりぬ。これぞ美の環流というべきものか。

今、AIアートにて東西の美を融合せんとする我が心も、かの時代の芸術家たちの志に通ずるものありや。自然の美を慈しみ、新しき表現を求めんとする心は、時代を超えて響き合うものなりけり。

Essays in Idleness – Modern Chapter “The Flow of Beauty”

As I sit here idly with brush in hand, letting my thoughts flow freely onto paper, various matters cross my mind, somewhat bewilderingly.

How wondrous it is that the “new art” that bloomed in distant Western lands had its origins in our country’s beauty. At the end of the nineteenth century, when Japanese ukiyo-e prints and crafts crossed the seas like waves, they stirred the hearts of people in those lands.

The beauty of curved decorations and patterns inspired by nature shone with new brilliance in the eyes of Western artists. Thus was born “Art Nouveau,” truly a child of the meeting between Eastern and Western beauty, which would eventually return to Japanese shores after the passage of time.

The delicate aesthetic sensibility that our ancestors discovered in the changing of seasons was polished in Western lands and returned with a new radiance. This might be called the circular flow of beauty.

Now, as I strive to merge Eastern and Western beauty through AI art, perhaps my spirit echoes that of the artists from that era. The heart that cherishes natural beauty and seeks new forms of expression resonates across time.
