つれづれなるままに、硯にむかひて、心に移りゆくよしなし事を、そこはかとなく書きつくれば、あやしうこそものぐるほしけれ。
昨秋のパリにて、修復中のノートルダム大聖堂を外より眺めしのみにて、その内なる美しきステンドグラスを拝することは叶わざりき。されど今は、多くの人々の祈りと思いに支えられ、その姿を取り戻したという。
大聖堂の歴史は、まことに深きものなり。火事にて傷つきし建物を修復せんと、世界中より寄せられし善意は、人の心の尊さを物語るものなり。
今、黒と金の和服を纏いし美しき女性の背後に、ノートルダムのステンドグラスを描きつつ、その壮麗なる姿を思い描く。まるで光の万華鏡の如き色彩の世界に、いつか実際に身を置くことを夢見つつ。
芸術の都パリは、かくも人の心を惹きつけるものか。ルーブルの至宝とともに、この大聖堂の神秘なる光の世界もまた、わが心の憧れとなりぬ。

Essays in Idleness – Modern Chapter “Cathedral Light”
As I sit here with my inkstone, letting my brush flow freely with whatever thoughts pass through my mind, how curious it all seems.
Last autumn in Paris, I could only view Notre-Dame Cathedral from the outside during its restoration, unable to behold the beautiful stained glass within. But now, supported by the prayers and thoughts of many, it has regained its form.
The cathedral’s history runs truly deep. The goodwill that poured in from around the world to restore the fire-damaged building speaks to the nobility of the human heart.
Now, as I paint Notre-Dame’s stained glass behind a beauty wearing a black and gold kimono, I envision its magnificent form. I dream of one day standing amidst that kaleidoscope of colors, like a world of light.
How Paris, the city of art, captivates the heart so. Along with the treasures of the Louvre, this cathedral’s mysterious world of light has become the object of my yearning.
