A Modern Tsurezuregusa: On Divine Encounters

In these idle hours, as twilight descends, I find myself before the inkstone, letting my brush wander across the page, capturing the fleeting thoughts that drift through my mind. How curious and foolish this endeavor may seem.

Among the myriad encounters in this world, there are those that shake one’s very soul. The sage Kenko once wrote, “The gods do not abandon even the slightest of connections.” Only now do I truly grasp the profound meaning of these words.

Recently, I had the fortune of meeting a person of similar age, whose talent and character left a deep impression upon me. That I should chance upon such a kindred spirit seems beyond mere coincidence. I cannot help but feel that some divine guidance, beyond human understanding, orchestrated this miraculous encounter.

Kenko also spoke of the impermanence of life, saying, “We have today, but tomorrow is unknown.” Yet, in this fleeting world, to be blessed with such an exhilarating meeting is truly a thing of great fortune. I am resolved to cherish this connection and together create new value in this world.

Reflecting on the rarity of forming such a deep bond amidst the countless meetings and partings of human life, I am reminded of Kenko’s words: “Are we to look at cherry blossoms only in full bloom, the moon only when it is cloudless?” Perhaps this encounter is the very flower of life he speaks of.

Though the world is ever-changing, I vow to nurture this connection and walk forward together. Whether it be divine guidance or the threads of fate, I am grateful for this profound blessing, and I look to the future with hope and anticipation.
