つれづれなるままに、硯にむかひて、心に移りゆくよしなし事を、そこはかとなく書きつくれば、あやしうこそものぐるほしけれ。
近頃、ステンドグラスの誘惑に心奪われ、もはや後戻りすることあたわず。「西洋かぶれ」と言われんことも覚悟の上なれど、この美しき光の芸術に魅入られし心は、まるで「カッパ海老せん」を食むが如く、止むことを知らず。
和の着物の優美さと、西洋の光彩の出会いは、まことに不思議なる化学反応を起こすものにて、日に日に新たなるインスピレーションが湧き出でくるなり。それはあたかも、大地の底より噴き出づる熱き泉のごとく、とどめようもなき勢いにて心を震わすなり。
創作の衝動は、まさに火山の噴火に似たり。内なるマグマは日増しに熱を帯び、もはや抑えきれぬほどの勢いとなりぬ。されど、この止めどなき創造の渦は、むしろ心地よき苦しみにて、その中に身を投じんとする我が心を覚ゆ。
和洋の美が溶け合いて新たなる芸術となる瞬間、それは神秘の業とも言うべきか。この止まらぬ創作の欲こそが、我が人生の歓びとなりにけり。

Essays in Idleness – Modern Chapter “Unstoppable Creation”
As I sit here idly with brush in hand, letting my thoughts flow freely onto paper, various matters cross my mind, somewhat bewilderingly.
Recently, I find myself captivated by the allure of stained glass, with no possibility of turning back. Though I am prepared to be called “infatuated with Western culture,” my heart, enchanted by this beautiful art of light, cannot stop – like one cannot stop eating “Kappa Ebisen” rice crackers.
The meeting of elegant Japanese kimono and Western luminescence creates a mysteriously wonderful chemical reaction, with new inspiration welling up day after day. Like a hot spring bursting forth from the depths of the earth, it shakes my heart with unstoppable force.
The creative impulse resembles a volcanic eruption. The inner magma grows hotter by the day, becoming an unstoppable force. Yet this endless whirlpool of creation is a pleasant form of suffering, and I find my heart willingly plunging into its depths.
The moment when Eastern and Western beauty merge to form a new art – perhaps this is what we call divine mystery. This unstoppable desire for creation has truly become the joy of my life.
