“The Wonders of Sea Travel” – A Modern Tsurezuregusa
As I sit idly by my inkstone, letting my brush wander aimlessly across the page, I find myself pondering the curious ways of the world.
To enjoy a leisurely sea journey with one’s car aboard is, when time permits, a luxury beyond compare. To reach one’s destination without the need to drive is the epitome of indulgence.
Consider the journey from Fukui to Hokkaido: a sea voyage from Tsuruga Port to Tomakomai is far more peaceful than rushing by land. During the twenty-hour crossing, eight are spent in slumber, while the rest are devoted to meals, movies, or whatever one’s heart desires.
Sleep if you wish, work if you must. Unlike travel by land, one can use time at will. With but a single pill to ward off seasickness, one can enjoy the comfort of climate-controlled spaces, even partaking in satellite broadcasts.
How best to use the fleeting moments of life? While I know the joy of driving, the charm of sea travel is exceptional. Though air travel is swift and cheap, when moving by car, the comfort of a ferry journey holds a special appeal.
From Osaka’s port to Beppu in Kyushu, or from Kagoshima back to Osaka, traveling with one’s own car aboard a ship – this is true leisure at its finest.
Thus, a body bound to land finds liberation upon the sea. Herein lies the ultimate charm of sea travel.
